Hi friends! Summer has decided to show her sweaty face here in Perth & wow, I am. not match fit! It’s too hot too soon! And like everyone, I am limping towards some time off over Christmas. It’s been a year, hasn’t it?! To combat my decision-making fatigue, I am sharing with you what I am calling the “summer default”. I literally decided on it today so here it is, fast & loose!
CLOTHING- I have finally found the perfect T-shirts ( it’s these ones from Cotton On). I bought it in black, white, grey, blue & pink & it’s they are the only T-shirts I’ll be wearing all summer. What with I hear you ask? I have two pairs of shorts I love: this pair from Target & this pair in white I bought last year from Vine Apparel (those Instagram ads got me good!). I love the elastic waist & baggy legs.
Last week, I picked up a white maxi off the clearance rack at Big W for $10 & I’ve already worn it twice. I’ve also bought this mini from Kmart (sorry, friends, I am a cheap & cheerful kinda gal when it comes to clothes).
Here’s me on the weekend in the white skirt & one of the Cotton On T-shirts. My daughter loves Deadpool, so when I noticed Ladypool walking down the city street, I had to ask her for a photo. I might look like a slob but I’m comfy & that is my goal with clothes right now.
I’ve got a few dresses that I can pop on if I need to be a little dressier & some linen blend tops if I want to switch out the tees too.
On my feet, it’ll be my secondhand Birks, my Genuines or my Doc sandals ( I have this black pair & this cream pair).
For work, I mainly wear activewear, so that’s a no-brainer.
FOOD- my go-to meal of the summer is going to be……bbq chook, salad, nice bread & watermelon. If I don’t know what to cook, that’s what we’ll have. If it’s too hot to cook, that’s what we’ll have. I am in my “simple meals” era & do not care about repeating dinners. If anyone wants to complain they are welcome to cook instead.
ENTERTAINMENT- reading & TV. That is it. If I have a spare minute, I’ll pick up a book. If I can’t concentrate, I’ll watch one of the shows or movies I have saved to a list for this very time of year. This is my list so far-
Some days, it gets too hot to even swim, so we need indoor stuff. I’ll play uno with my kids, too, but no bucket lists this year. Just simple stuff to fill the days, please & thank you.
To be honest, I am going to try & make my default anything other than my phone!
Other things I am making my default-
Click & collect groceries. I do this most of the time anyway, but I’m going to make it the summer default to collect groceries on the way home from work when we need them.
Sticking to my workout schedule. I am terrible without a routine, but I am going to keep doing my twice-a-week yoga (I’m lucky that doing yoga is actually part of my job) while on holidays & keep up with my three resistance workouts, too. I truly get those exercise endorphins. I literally feel like a better person after I move my body, so I am keeping it going while on holiday & while my kids are on holiday.
Not staying up too late or waking up late. I adore having the house to myself at night, so on the weekends & when I am off work, it’s not unusual for me to stay up until midnight, but then I sleep in late the next morning, and I feel totally out of whack. Summer default is to stick to my regular weekday routine. Mostly.
Here’s hoping our Summer is everything we want it to be!
Talk soon xx
Totally gel with having fewer clothes that you love and wearing them to death.
So agree on the T-shirts (I’m currently wearing the pink one too!) - they are the perfect cut, I went ahead and ordered more colours last night as they’re currently $10. I am so here for simplifying the season. I had planned out kids crafts and activities and I quickly scrapped the idea because it was too much pressure! And simple meals! We are very high 30’s this weekend and into the start of the week here in Canberra so anything I can do to avoid turning the oven on 🙂
