Loved reading this. Reminded me of end-of-year wind down in Australia, I could practically smell it. It's all this that makes it feel like Christmas in Australia, and why Christmas in Japan just doesn't feel like Christmas at all! 😭
Sounds lovely. It has taken awhile, but our current Christmas routine seems to work. Christmas carols from Dec 1st. Tree up on the weekend that school finishes, and watch a Muppet Christmas Carol. (I'm a teacher and the last 2 weeks of school is always insane with grads etc.). Visit my family interstate in the week before Christmas (no family here over Christmas). Inlaws do a big Christmas eve celebration (Scandinavian). Christmas day is just immediate family, stockings in the morning and very special breakfast. Linner in the afternoon too. But usually I do cold meats and salad and my teenagers just informed me that they want the whole "roast dinner" thing so I might make them cook that.
it sounds just right Reannon, i love that you get into christmas, i don't. not even a tree this year as we won't be here and no kiddos will be home so what's the point, my youngest and i used to watch xmas movies, have xmas playlists and she was big on decorating, i kind of miss it really oh well
There were many years where I really didn’t care & just did it for the kids but Sadie really turned things around for me. And I think the pandemic did too. Not being able to leave the state for two years meant we had to find the fun at home so that’s when I went ham lol
I don’t know what I’ll do when I’m at your stage with no kids at home. It’ll be weird!
What’s the plan for Christmas? Going to fam or somewhere fun?
yes we are off to hobart to spend christmas with the kids, but as G is on call it will be a quick turn around back home on boxing day. i am excited to see how they do christmas, i have made it very clear that it can look however they want and i don't expect them to do it the way we have done it in the past. i'm hoping for some new traditions. the magic went they were all teens and too cool for xmas lol but having them all living away has just made it even bleaker, guess it's up to me to be festive even if it's only for myself
Hi R, looks like a great Christmas at your place! Enjoying your littles and traditions and cherishing the bittersweet lasts 🥲
Thx for your movies list! I’m going to TRY to get this household of young adults to take turns choosing a few (or just put them on myself).
Love your little trees, I have a wee collection too. Our big tree is not up yet!! This weekend for sure.
I love the annual shopping for an ornament each … one to go before she starts working full time.
Speaking of which, we’re juggling kids’ working commitments through the holidays this year, so the Hamtastic might have to wait till the Big Day rather than the night before, but no drama either way. Very happy to have both kids home, and celebrating simply, just the four of us xx
I think it’s nice to hear about what things people enjoy around Christmas. I’m on the other side of the world so it’s interesting to me as it’s a little different. Although I do like to throw myself into it too. ❤️
The tree is so festive! It makes all the difference!

How to nice that you’ll all get to be together. I’m excited to hear how it all goes.

We’ve had those holidays too where the kids work every hour given to them. I always put my foot down & said no working Xmas day though.
We call it the Christmas forest. My plan is to add to it each year.
I’m with you, simple is best xx
